2010 is just around the corner. The academic school year doesn’t start for months, but the students who act early get the best rental houses near NCSU, at the best prices for the year. The early bird really gets the worm. What’s the best way to get started?
Property owners appreciate students who take the initiative to get their living situation lined up early. Why? It’s more security for them, and it shows responsibility and proactivity – two characteristics that landlords like to see in their tenants.
Be prepared to pay the deposit – typically one month rent – and complete a tenant application for each person in your party.
On the flip side, feel free to negotiate as well. In some cases property owners may freeze, or in some cases drop rent, for very well qualified tenants who have their act together and the deposit ready to go. It is in the landlord’s best interest to get great tenants – and if this can be done months ahead of time of the end-of-summer leasing craze, so much the better for everyone.
